BEST COLOGNE SPA
1. Meditarana
Address: Saaler Mühle 1, 51429 Bergisch Gladbach
Mediterana is widely considered the best Cologne spa, and it can be found nestled in the beautiful Saaler Mühle recreation park, right by Bensberger Lake. The spa has an enchanting charm with its Spanish-Moorish and Indo-Arabian architectural styles.
Covering an impressive area of 11,000 square meters, Mediterana offers 15 saunas and baths, most of which have been specially designed exclusively for this place. One such masterpiece is the “House of Meditation,” where you’ll be welcomed by a grand Buddha statue and soothing sounds and music.
You can explore the traditions of Arabian bath culture in the Persian Gemstone Bath, which focuses on taking care of your skin and providing regenerative treatments. For those seeking the wisdom of Indian Ayurveda, the “Rajasthani House” provides a dedicated space for a healthy and long life.
A particular highlight is the Thermal Bath, which is unmatched in Europe. It features four vital springs spread across six indoor and outdoor pools, covering an area of 4,000 square meters. The water comes from their own spring and is treated with Grander technology. Each pool is further enriched with salts and minerals, putting Mediterana’s Thermal Bath at the forefront of Spa & Medical-Wellness experiences.
Outside, you can try the Sole Bath, where a three percent concentration of Dead Sea salt creates a peaceful atmosphere. The surrounding area offers a generously designed terrace and summer garden, providing a tranquil space to unwind. The Sulphur Lounge Bath is another notable option, enriched with high levels of calcium and sulfur. It promotes metabolism in the connective tissues and revitalizes the skin’s appearance, making it a great remedy against inflammation. For those who love swimming, there’s a Sports Pool available.
In addition to the various saunas and baths, Mediterana offers a range of massages. It’s a good idea to book massages in advance to secure a spot for relaxation. They have sports massages and even exotic ones like the Lomi Lomi Nui Massage and the Bamboo Massage.
Experience the wonders of Mediterana, where a blend of cultural influences, therapeutic waters, and expertly crafted massages invite you on a journey of ultimate well-being and rejuvenation. Leave behind the stresses of everyday life and embrace the peaceful serenity that awaits you at this extraordinary spa retreat in Cologne.
2. Claudius Therme
Address: Sachsenbergstraße 1, 50679 Cologne
The Claudius Therme is an amazing thermal bath located in the picturesque Rheinpark, and without a doubt, it’s one of the best spas in the area.
Inside, there are separate swimming and sauna areas, and you can choose to book them individually.
In the swimming area, you’ll discover a large indoor pool that leads to a welcoming outdoor pool. They even have a therapy pool where they offer regular physiotherapy treatments. Plus, there are various whirlpools, a Kneipp pool, and a soothing sitting pool to enhance your swimming experience.
One of my favorite things about this place is the warm and gentle thermal water, which stays at a comfortable temperature of 31-35 degrees Celsius. What’s more, there’s no strong chlorine smell, which is often present at other swimming pools.
In the swimming area, it’s essential to wear swimwear, but in the sauna area, it’s textile-free, so you need to remove your bathing attire before entering.
The sauna area includes both indoor and outdoor sections. Inside, you’ll find different saunas, a Turkish steam bath, a pool, and several relaxation rooms. The highlight is undoubtedly the Panorama Sauna, where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Rheinpark and the Cologne Cathedral.
The outdoor section is known as the Sauna Village (Saunadorf). Here, you’ll find saunas of varying intensity, an ice bath, and a pool. There’s also a sunbathing lawn where you can unwind.
But there’s even more! At the end of the Sauna Village, there’s another building housing additional saunas. In addition to the saunas, this building offers beautifully designed relaxation rooms and a floating pool enriched with salt from the Dead Sea.
Furthermore, the Claudius Therme provides a section for physiotherapy and massages. If you want to book a massage, it’s best to do it before your visit to the spa.
If you’re arriving by car, you’ll find parking spaces right at the doorstep, making it convenient for you to visit this delightful wellness retreat.
3. Neptunbad
Address: Neptunpl. 1, 50823 Cologne
Neptunbad Cologne is a high-class spa located in the charming district of Ehrenfeld.
The sauna area has both indoor and outdoor sections. Inside, you’ll find different saunas, a pool, and several comfortable loungers.
The beautifully designed Japanese Zen garden offers inviting sun decks and outdoor lounging spots, along with Onsen baths, serene relaxation rooms, and various saunas. If you need to cool down, there’s a refreshing outdoor pool.
The sauna area has been meticulously reconstructed in the style of the Art Nouveau bath, giving you a taste of bathing culture from imperial times.
And don’t miss the chance to pamper yourself with their massage services. They offer soothing Ayurvedic massages, invigorating deep massages, rejuvenating relaxation massages, and luxurious cosmetic treatments.
One thing to keep in mind is that the baths require you to be naked, and there are no separate changing rooms for men and women. It may feel a bit unusual at first, but it’s all part of the unique experience Neptunbad offers.
If you’re coming by car, you’ll need to park in the nearby parking garage. The Ehrenfeld district is quite built-up, and with many ongoing construction sites, finding street parking might be challenging.

In the lovely city of Neuss, not far from Cologne, you’ll discover a peaceful spa called Wellneuss. Wellneuss is a special spa that offers relaxation and rejuvenation, perfect for taking a break from busy life.
Inside the spa, you’ll feel cozy and warm. There’s a small pool where you can relax and forget your worries for a while.
But the best part of Wellneuss is the outside section. It’s surrounded by beautiful nature, and there are charming saunas and steam rooms where you can unwind and feel good. Whether you like a hot sauna or a gentle steam room, Wellneuss has something for everyone.
One of the most amazing things is the natural pond. You can take a refreshing dip in its clear water and feel so peaceful, like you’re one with nature.
After enjoying all the spa’s great things, you can relax on a big lawn under the sun.
Like other spas, Wellneuss also offers a variety of massages and beauty treatments. It’s best to book these treatments in advance before your visit.
For those arriving by car, you’ll find a parking spot right at the doorstep.

The Mauritiustherme is part of the well-known Mauritius Hotel located in the city center, but you can also visit it without staying at the hotel.
This option is perfect if you want to escape the hustle and bustle for a few hours while still staying in Cologne. However, for those coming from afar, staying overnight at the hotel is a great choice.
The sauna and thermal area spans 3,500 square meters, offering seven Finnish saunas, Kneipp baths, a relaxation area, and various pools.
